Consistent Effort at Stingers Tournament
Submitted By Deb McCarthy on Sunday, November 27, 2016
The Schoonderwoerd Bros. U14 ringette team may have come just short of making it to the championship game, but the girls should be proud of their concerted effort and demonstration of skill during this weekend's tournament play.

On Saturday morning, the Stingers pulled off a win against Hanover.  Laura McCarthy scored a hat trick, while Jenna Regele, Emma Goetz, and Gwenyth McKay each earned one marker each.  Samantha McCarthy was credited with 3 assists in the game, with Sydney Smith, Brianna Cook and McKay helping out on others.  Amberleigh Dearing performed strong in net, letting in only 3 of the many shots that were fired by the opponents.  Stingers won the game 6-3.  Mitchell just couldn't get the breaks as they were defeated by Richmond Hill later in the day.  Regele did her part though as she scored 2 of the 3 goals.  Smith gets credit for the third.  Cook and L. McCarthy earned the assists.  It just wasn't enough as they lost in the end with a score of 6-3.  The girls played the game of the weekend as they faced the first place team, St. Mary's Snipers on Sunday morning. They continuously turned the play around in the defensive zone.  The defensive squad of Smith, Goetz, Regele and the McCarthys, were instrumental in shutting the Snipers down several times.  Dearing made some amazing saves to keep the team in the game.  The offensive squad of Cook, Joy and Maya Belfour, Maddy Dixon, McKay, L. McCarthy and Regele displayed stellar skills and effort as they passed and played an aggressive game.  Cook gets credit for the lone goal in the 3-1 loss, with McKay earning the assist.  Great teamwork by all this weekend!
