Golden Toque Weekend for the Mitchell/Seaforth U16 Team
Submitted By Deb McCarthy on Sunday, November 25, 2018
The Mitchell/Seaforth U16 team won all 4 of their games this weekend during the 35th Annual Mitchell Ringette Tournament.  The girls all played with passion and grit as they persevered to come out on top against some very evenly matched teams.  Amberleigh Dearing stood her ground in net throughout the weekend, making stellar saves time and time again, keeping the team in the game(s).  The tight defensive play of Emma Goetz, Samantha McCarthy, Sydney Smith and Kylie McNaughton were key elements of success, as they continuously built a tough wall to tackle for the opponents.

The Stinger/Explosion crew opened their weekend with a 5-3 win against Hanover on Friday night.  Jenna Regele, Bri Cook (2), Kylie McNaughton and Laura McCarthy scored for the home team, with Jenna McClure, Cook, McNaughton, Maya Belfour (2) and Kirsten McIntosh earning the assists.  An early morning start on Saturday, plus the added incentive from assistant coach, Dean Smith, to pay for their breakfast, proved successful as they defeated their league rivals, St. Mary’s Snipers, 7-5.  Laura McCarthy earned a hat-trick, Cook added 2 goals, with Jenna Regele and Belfour each adding singles.  L McCarthy, Emma Goetz, Cook, S McCarthy, McClure, L McCarthy, and Smith added the assists on the goals.  They met Calendonia in their third game, and earned another “W” with a 5-2 score.  Cook, McClure, Caitlin McKercher, Smith and McNaughton found the net with help from S McCarthy, Belfour, McClure, L McCarthy and Regele.

The final game was edge-of-your-seat entertainment as Mitchell/Seaforth once again met their match against the St. Mary’s Snipers.  The Snipers opened the scoring less than a minute into the game, but Regele, with help from Wendy Campbell, tied it up a few minutes later.  The remainder of the first period was back and forth action and remained tied.  Cook opened the scoring for the home team during the second on a pass from Campbell, but it wasn’t long until the Snipers tied it up once again.  With less than five minutes to play, and each team fighting off penalties, Cook and Campbell each scored for Mitchell/Seaforth with an assist going to L McCarthy, to give the home team a 4-2 win.
