Regional Weekend not a True Reflection of the U16 Season
Submitted By Deb McCarthy on Sunday, March 31, 2019
The Mitchell Seaforth U16 team placed fourth out of thirteen teams at the Western Regional Ringette tournament this past weekend.  The team ended up in second place overall during regular season action and won gold medals in all three tournaments they entered throughout the year.  Despite this amazing season record, they just couldn't produce the results they needed to continue this success over the weekend.  They opened the weekend with a close loss of 2-1 against Hanover on Friday.  Wendy Campbell scored the only marker for Mitchell Seaforth.  The effort was topnotch from all players, but the penalty minutes were just too numerous for them to manage.

Saturday brought one win and one loss, which was enough to land them in the bronze medal game on Sunday.  They were defeated by St. Marys 6-2 to begin with on Saturday.  Laura McCarthy and Campbell earned the points, while Maya Belfour and L McCarthy added the assists.  Their win on Saturday was against Goderich as they slighted the Icecrushers 4-3.  L McCarthy, Kirsten McIntosh, Caitlin McKercher and Jenna McClure each scored once.  Helpers were credited to Bri Cook (2), and Sami McCarthy.  An early morning game on Sunday didn't fair out too well for the team, as they once again met the Icecrushers in the bronze medal game.  Mitchell Seaforth struggled to score on the Goderich goalie, with the only goal of the game for them being scored by S McCarthy, assisted by Jenna Regele.  Goderich won the game 5-1.
Overall, the girls had a fantastic season on and off the ice.  The most rewarding experience was the amalgamation of the two teams as the girls made life-long friendships with new players.  A special shout out to the awesome coaching duo of Wayne Regele and Dean Smith, as well as the support of the bench staff Randy McClure (trainer) and Lorna McKercher (manager).  As another season comes to a close, the memories and friendships will endure.
